This FujiNet is configured with a custom adapter cable that allows it to be used with the Tano Dragon 32/64 by connecting to the Centronics printer port.†

Keep in mind that this cartridge is based on the FujiNet for CoCo Rev0000, which is designed to work with the Tandy Color Computer Models 1*, 2, and 3. To use this cartridge with a Color Computer, you will need a separate DIN-4 cable.

Serial communication is handled using the DriveWire protocol.

Please keep in mind that the CoCoFuji is in Rev0000. That means this item is in “pre-release”. Although it is considered ready to use, changes to both hardware and firmware may occur before Rev 1 is released.

Description

†This FujiNet cartridge comes preconfigured with a serial cable that provides a connection to the Tano Dragon 32/64’s Centronics printer port. While this cartridge also works with Tandy Color Computers 1, 2, and 3, you will need a separate DIN-4 cable to do so. It is also compatible with Tandy Color Computer Models 1, 2, and 3, but requires a separate DIN-4 cable for use with those systems. This cable can be added to your order. Please note that changing cables requires removing eight screws.

About Rev0000

Rev0000 is a minor hardware change which eliminates the need for two bodge wires to set band rate . It includes the benefits of Rev000 which did away with the tape circuit and moved to a ROM for bootstrapping HDB-DOS, similar to a “minimal” Rev00 build and bootstrapping via a CocoSDC or other ROM cart. Since it is now a cartridge format, you no longer need to power the ESP32 via USB, and instead it will normally take 5V from the cartridge port. There is a diode so if you do want to power by USB for debug logging or other reasons it is safe to do so without backfeeding into the Coco.

We build the CoCoFuji using the ESP32-DEVKITC-VIE and an external antenna (The antenna is external to the PCB, but still fits within the cartridge.)

About Firmware and ROM

The ESP32 runs FujiNet Firmware. In addition, a ROM provides HDB-DOS Drivewire 3.

*Note: Diagnostics was provided as the fourth ROM option prior to January 2025. The fourth ROM option now supports Dragon 32/64 and diagnostics are not available on the ROM.
If you have a ROM version prior to January 2025: Booting diagnostics from the ROM requires shorting J1 on the printed circuit board. A better way is to leave J1 as it is and boot your CoCo from the normal 1, 2, or 3 DIP setting. Then run this from the BASIC prompt: EXEC &HC000″ on CoCo 1+2, or “EXEC &HE010” for CoCo3.

Note: ​The 3D-printed parts used in FujiNet are not like injection-molded parts. I strive to produce good quality prints, but some may show extrusion rings, artifacts, blemishes, and other signs of plastic extrusion.
